Finding Your Way Back: How Chloé O'Dwyer Rediscovered Sport - and Herself Through REACH

This story is featured as part of SUCCEED Stories, through the SUCCEED Framework. SUCCEED (Supporting Communities Empowerment & Development through Sport for All) is a global framework dedicated to fostering community empowerment and development through capacity building in Sport for All. Led by TAFISA in collaboration with the IOC through its Olympism365 strategy, SUCCEED aims to provide a unified and synergistic approach towards building the capacity of Sport for All stakeholders.

At 25, Chloé O'Dwyer had done a lot of things right - degree, first job, PhD. But somewhere in all that change, she had drifted from the thing that had always kept her grounded: sport.

Growing up in rural Ireland, sport was simply part of life. GAA, soccer, summers on local fields - it was how she met people, built confidence, and learned what hard work felt like. Moving back home reconnected her with her local soccer team, and with a feeling she hadn't realised she'd been missing: belonging.

When she came across the REACH project, it clicked. Online webinars brought her into a community that stretched from Limerick to Canada, Japan, and Morocco. In-person training took her to France and the Czech Republic. Co-hosting a Sport for All Expo Day at the University of Limerick gave her a new kind of confidence - one that has followed her into her PhD and her ongoing work as a volunteer with Limerick Sports Partnership.

"Always be open and kind, as it costs nothing."
